One way to put an end to a fun surf session

By Venus Goes Gidget · On July 17, 2011

It’s a beautiful day. Surf looks pretty amazing and I can’t wait to get into the water. I’m having a ball out there. I’m frothing and stoked about some of the waves I’ve caught. I’m having a ball. I’m about to paddle for the next wave ready to “race down the line” and … oh noooooooooo… The dude next to me decides to ignore me and fully cuts off my way. Classic drop in. I chase after him on the wave and signal with a gentle ‘oi’  to piss off my wave.  Not only does he continue to ignore me but the rude bastard decides to cut back. Awesome cut back. Not so awesome that I was right behind him. He loses balance, stumbles into my board and sends me flying.

We both surface eventually with our boards and leashes all tangled up. Let me tell you,  he was definitely not the person I wanted to be entangled with. Since I’m a forgiving person, I’m waiting patiently for him to catch his breath so he can apologise for the rude drop in.

What? I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Instead of receiving my well deserved apology, he goes on a yelling rampage along the lines of “Fucking bitch, get out of my fucking way,”… only to name a few sentences out of his wide swearing repertoire. I can’t take it anymore and shout back at him ‘It was fucking my vave’. The way I pronounce wave might have given away that I did not exactly grow up in Bondi. ‘Go back where you fucking come from’ is the next insult I have to listen to. When I tell him he’s an idiot, he’s lost for words and is about to punch me. Even though he did not strike me as a smart cookie, he realises that it’s probably not the smartest thing to start a punch up with a girl in the line up and pulls back. Red headed and angry as f… he tries to paddle away which is quite comical given our leashes are still caught up with each other. Finally freed from surfrage dude, he paddles away and keeps on swearing to himself.

The whole scene did not go unseen by a line up of about 100 people.  I am mildly embarrassed by the attention. I still can’t believe how he could drop in on me like that. Probably because I’m a girl…It turns out I’ll be proven wrong. He is not just a chauvinistic arsehole but an arsehole in general.  He keeps on dropping in on everyone. He surfs like he’s the only person out there. Not looking left or right, he just goes for it. Those who complain, he threatens with a fight. What a bully. It happens what had to happen. Eventually he throws the first punch at one guy who happened to be in ‘his’ way. Guy fights back. It’s not looking good for surfrage dude as he did not make many friends with his previous behaviour. Another 5 guys get involved in the fight backing the innocent dude and in fact the whole line up cheers against surfrage dude. Surfrage dude does not stand much of a chance and is forced to leave the water.

Congratulations, not only did you fuck up my session and that of about another 100 people, now you managed to put an end to yours too.
