Yes the surf was still breaking in spite of the football and it was a diverse weekend of waves.
Saturday morning dawned morning of the earth style in the valley and it seemed like most of the local surf rats were down at the beach chasing the fun 3 foot peaks rolling in.
There were nicely shaped glassy lefts and rights at Lifeguards and a peeling left down in the south corner. The crowd was totally hectic early but petered out a bit at breakfast time which is always a good window to snag a couple.
I think it got windy and cold in the afternoon and Sunday was pretty much a right off due to massive waves and the persistent southerly but luckily the weekend was long and there was time for redemption.
Today things were more exciting and although Bondi still looked pretty messy and big, the Bra had cleaned up a little and south end was pretty much firing with 4 foot offshore peaks all day. The wind was damn cold though and hardened south end regulars were complaining about the crowd from Bondi … so yep it was a little busy!
Anyway we weren’t wave starved and if you’d found Saturdays waves at an uncrowded beach down the coast you’d be blabbing about it for days … so a kinda cool weekend really.
South end Maroubra should still be good in the morning if you’re up for a paddle.
