Another early summer weekend with not many waves to speak of. You know it’s small if it’s too small for the mal. Yesterday was still surfable but only just. Today it was so tiny I could not be bothered to drag the mal to the beach.
With summer flatness upon us, what to do?? The water was very inviting and it’s nice sometimes to just play in the water without a board. I went for a couple of swims to cool off from humid hot days. I also went snorkeling for a bit off Ben Buckler but the water was a tad to murky to really see much. I saw a few little fish nevertheless and man, I had no idea how many sea urchins there were around. They are maaaassive. You don’t want to step into one these. Ouchy.
In the unlikely case you have not heard or seen it yet, Sculptures by the Sea are on too. The Bondi to Tama coastal walk has been turned into a sculpture exhibition. There are some beautiful pieces on display. I think my fav of all was the bottle with wings. Oh and the little house in the cliffs was awesome. The exhibition is the perfect flat summer’s day activity. It’s nice to go for a stroll and check out the sculptures and it’s free. You might want to have a good think what time of the day you want go though. It’s freaking busy and hordes of tourist descend onto Bondi for the exhibition throughout the day. The stroll might be more of a shuffle if you pick the wrong time. But maybe if it’s flat tomorrow for your early morning surf, it’s worthwhile checking it out. And it looks like it’s going to be flat at least for the start of the week. Let’s only hope that the small, predicted Southerly comes in on Wednesday…
By the way, the water is so nice and warm and I don’t want to jinx it but it might be time for the steamers to retire for the season?
