Weekend Wave Wrap: Where there is a will, there is a wave…

By Venus Goes Gidget · On March 18, 2012

…even if it’s just a crap one. For those of you who live and surf in the Eastern Suburbs, there was nothing to get too excited about wave (and weather)wise. It was 2-3 ft onshore and pissing down at times. I’ve checked Bondi about 10 times on Saturday, hoping that it would get better or I get desperate enough to jump in nevertheless. Neither happened, so I spent a surfless Saturday. It’s amazing how much you fit in a Saturday if you don’t spent half of the day in the water.

Sunday morning, desperation won. It looked just like Saturday, but I really needed some water time. I got into my cosy wetsuit to make the fairly strong winds bearable. Yikes…steamer already and it’s not even Easter. And then…I had such a ball. It was actually much better than it looked. I love it when that happens (not so good when it’s the other way round but). I spent a couple of hours in the water. It was quite peaceful. Not many people out to start with. Until more people figured that some surfers had fun out there. By nine it was back to normal Bondi chaos.

Off the back of my surprisingly fun morning surf, I had high hopes that the afternoon would be the same. It looked as bad as it did in the morning, so I figured I must have as much fun as I had in the morning. Well, I was wrong. I had a few ones in the shorey but it was super crowded and all over the place. And it felt sharky like hell. Oh well at least I tried.

Not sure about next week, looks like we are in for a few more onshore days, until the wind swings around to NE again by Tuesday, Wednesday. There should be a bit of swell hanging around too and maybe the cyclone forecast for QLD brings some waves down here too.
