How cold was the wind this weekend? The wind came from the mountains and it’s been snowing there. No wonder it was cold. At least it was offshore though for most of the time. Saturday was tiny. I thought about taking the longboard down but then it’s just too hard work to carry a 9ft board down to the beach when it’s so windy. So I opted for a rest day instead.
Sunday, the swell picked up steadily throughout the day. Apparently, it was quite fun early on at about 2ft. I only made it into the water by lunchtime. By then it was solid 3ft with some bigger sets come through. The wind also turned slightly onshore – A perfect combination for Bondi along with the high tide. I had some really good waves and long rides all the way to the beach. Fun. One thing I noticed, the water temperature has dropped heaps. It was still quite warm throughout the week but far out it was freezing. Definitely time for the warmest steamer you have and it’s only May!! Maybe I need to get a 4’3 after all…
Tomorrow morning looks like a bit of a no-go…20 knot onshore and low tide…and 4 ft…sounds like a big close-out party. From Tuesday onwards, it should be fun though.
