You gotta love those beautiful, beautiful winter weekends. Clear skies and sun all weekend long. There is a bit of a chill in the air but it actually gets warm enough in the sun to get a sunburn…well that’s not so great.
Surf forecast for the weekend was not so great either. It looked like it was going to be flat all weekend. So I made no plans to go anywhere and thought I would chill out in Bondi. Either way, Saturday early morning I checked the surf on autopilot as I always do, not expecting any waves at all and what do I see? Fun 2 footers with the occasional bigger set. And on top of that a little rip-bowl on the second ramp with a great left. Oh and it gets even better. Hardly anyone out. I don’t know where everyone was but it was excellent. I surfed myself stupid on a little ripbowl catching hundreds of waves (ok maybe not hundreds but a lot). All surfed out, I recovered on the grassy knoll in mid Bondi with a little nap in the sun (that’s where the sunburn comes in). When I woke up the waves looked even better. It picked up a bit more. I decided to go for seconds. The ripbowl was not working anymore at the higher tide but again I had such a fun surf for another couple of hours. So my allegedly surfless Saturday turned into a fun day of surfing. Noice.
Sunday, I had high expectations hoping my little rip-bowl would return. It did not quite but there were still some 2 footers hanging around with alright banks. Also, I was early enough to beat the longboard club before they started their comp. Some of my friends went a bit later at around 10.00 and they reported crazy crowds but fun waves too. I did not make it for a second surf on Sunday as I had other stuff on (that’s what happens if the surf-forecast is wrong…) but when I drove past the beach a couple of times it looked like nice surf all day long.
All in all a great weekend of sun and surf (and a bit of a chill). The week ahead is not looking bad at all. It seems like we are in for a big South swell peaking on Wednesday with offshore winds. Oh and it’s going to be sunny all week too.
Forget this morning though, I’ve checked already. It’s 1ft max. You might catch a wave if you have a mal but even then you might struggle. Hence, why I’m catching up on the weekend wave wrap instead of surfing…
Have a good week everyone.
