I grew up on the mid-north coast of NSW and learnt to surf at Boomerang beach when I was quite tiny by a local guy with a snake tattooed on his head. I have since moved toSydney’s northern beaches and battled with the rest of the world to get a wave. I work in the city as a graphic artist and enjoy yoga when I can get out of work on time!
Local break: Here is Sydney – Freshwater. Up the coast I am going to claim saltwater point!
What I love about surfing: That I can paddle out and stop thinking about what ever is bothering me. At home (up the coast) I always know people in the water and they are always so happy to see me paddle out. Or help me out when I scratch my feet up jumping off the rocks!
What I hate about surfing: The crowds in the city. It ruins the tranquillity of the whole experience. But what I am learning is that all of those people are actually trying to do the same thing as me – I just wish they would all chat more and just relax!
Favourite surfspot in Oz: I have to say Saltwater Point of XX corner close by. The local will kill me for giving it all away!
Favourite surfspot overseas: I travelled to Bali for a girlfriend’s wedding and surfed shipwrecks. That was fun (mind you it was small – about 3 foot I’d say).
Favourite surfboard: My current hand-me-down. 6ft 2” Warne. Although I am very fond of my original purple beast my brother shaped for my birthday a few years ago. Who am I kidding I love my 9ft mal too, on a cruisy day at the point it’s the only way to get the waves from all the way out the back!
Favourite surfer: Steph Agostino-Gilmore
Favourite surf movie: To be honest I’m not that into surf films (I’d rather just be out there) but on holiday after a long surf it’s always nice to relax and watch a flick.
What I do in real life: That’s a good question. I’m still trying to figure that out…
