What do pigs and balls have in common? Well, they are an excellent way to pass the time between swells. Last weekend was long weekend which meant it was time for a surf trip down South. We rented a nice little holiday house for a crew of ten.
I arrived on Saturday with the NE swell truly on its last legs. We went for a little surf, a very little one in freezing cold water. I think we literally saw the last couple of sets of the NE swell come in before it went pretty much flat. So instead of an evening surf we played Boccia in the streets of Manyana. We were a little bit lost without surf in Manyana and celebrating the Swans win was not an option either in a town without pub.
The thing with surfing is, you usually get quite tired. So on our usual surftrips, we would all drop like flies after dinner and usually everyone’s in bed by about 11.00 at the latest. They say 10.00 pm is like midnight Manyana time. Without surfing though, we were still rather active and after we were tired of playing ping pong, we changed over to shithead. For those who don’t know it’s a card game where you need to get rid off all cards as quickly as possible, the person who’s left over is called shithead; quote Simon: there are no winners in this game, only a shithead…It may not sound that exciting but it was highly entertaining and we were all having a great laugh. We went to bed I think like 3.00 am Manyana time. Most of us rather tipsy me thinks.
Some of us still managed to get up early on Sunday to check the surf including myself. Unfortunately, it was flat. I’ve rarely ever seen it so flat. Usually, you get at least something down there. Oh well I could have tried turtle my softie. But I did not feel too flash without sleep and a cold coming on. So I actually quite enjoyed having the laziest day I have had since I don’t know.
Well, I moved a little bit when we played Boccia again. And then it was time to get ready for Schnitzel night. Whoop whoop. Together with my two Schnitzel apprentices we’ve produced about 20 Schnitzels in no time for dinner. Shithead has lost it’s appeal so we’ve tried a few other games including ‘Pass the pigs’. The most random game ever. You pass 2 little piggies and depending on what side they fall on you score points. Noooo, we were not bored…no not at all…
Monday morning, we were all super stoked when we woke up to some swell. There were some super fun waves around 3ft and good banks. After brekkie and a bit of a rest we went for round 2 around lunchtime. The swell has picked up further and some good size sets were coming through. Thanks Bendalong I knew it – you always deliver. I had to head back to the big smoke after that surf but I think the other peeps may have had another fun surf.
Can’t wait for the next long surf-weekend. Uh hang on that’s not that far away. Will drag my workmates down the coast in a couple of weeks for some surfie time away from the computer. See you soon Bendalong.
Looks like we’ll have waves until Friday morning and a new swell hitting in time for the weekend which is only 3 days away. You gotta love short weeks….
