Lots going on last weekend: Full Moon. Summer start. Hottest day in a long time…the only thing that was missing again were waves.
Friday, I went down to the Shire for my ‘internship’ at the surf school. The sun was out and waves were pretty small. The perfect day for teaching peeps how to surf. Having said that, it might have been almost too small. Even the 5 year olds got over it fairly quickly. They are only little and 1.5ft waves are head high waves for them… and it was too small for them…hmmm..
I was pretty happy about my Friday in the beach ‘office’ anyway. I was exhausted though after helping out with three classes. I’ve spent about 5 hours in the water and the sun. Needless to say that I was very proud when I did get away without sunburn (never happens).
Saturday, was tiny again in Bondi. Just surfable on a mal. It was a stinker of a day…super hot. Far too hot even into the night. And on top of that full moon…not a good time for sleeping. So we had the glorious idea to go for a full moon surf. It was quite funny walking to the beach in surf gear in the middle of the night. The water was a tad chilly without the sun. On the flip side, not threat of sunburn there. The tide was pretty high and it was hard to catch waves but hey at least it was not crowded and it’s very special out there at full moon. A bit eerie at the same time and I was actually quite happy it was tiny and only a bit of a shorey so we did not have to paddle out too far. Even though the water surface was fairly bright, you can’t see what ‘s going on underneath you…nada.
Sunday, was a bit crappy compared to Saturday. Grey and cold, only little waves in Bondi again. Apparently, Maroubra had a bit of a wave but I had other stuff on so did not even get to go in the water.
Tuesday is looking like we are getting some South Swell into Bondi. Fingers and toes crossed. In urgent need for a decent surf…
Also, my dear gidgets and friends of gidgets….in case you have not noticed…Christmas is approaching fast. If you are looking for presents for your surfing friends, check out ‘Gift ideas for the common gidget (and surferdudes, too)…
Have a good one everyone
