First weekend back in the hood after my Indo trip…NE swell was dominating all weekend. Bondi was not getting much of it. It was pretty much ankle biters and on top of it, the surface was always a bit ruffled by light onshores. Not the most inspiring of conditions.
I did not mind so much because I was working off my ten final practice hours to complete my surf coaching accreditation. So once more I hiked down to the Cronulla Surfing Academy to help out with surf classes. The conditions were great for surf lessons. Friday I did three classes in a row, which meant six hours in the water and out in the sun pushing kiddies onto waves. Same on Saturday but ‘only’ two classes i.e. four hours in the water. I can’t tell you how tired and sore I was afterwards. I felt muscles in my body I did not know they existed. It was still heaps of fun but there is no way in hell, I’ll ever do more than two classes in a row again. Anyway, finished my hours now and all I do know is finish paperwork before I can call myself surf instructor.
Whilst I was taking care of the up and coming surfing talent, my mates reported some fun waves in Maroubra on Saturday. Hoping there would be some swell left over, I’d organised a roadie with two other gidget friends for Sunday. The surf forecast was looking promising. 2.5ft and glassy on the Northern Beaches and three stars at surf-forecast.com. Well, well, as it turns out unfortunately surf forecasts are not always right. I have to admit I was a tiny bit disappointed when we rocked up at the Northern beaches and the swell was not much bigger than in Bondi and even though it was not windy there was still a bit of a bump in the waves. We ended up having a pretty average surf but it was still a cracker of a day anyway and the water was beautiful. I wanted to get a sunset session in as well on the longboard but got sidetracked with a sunset session at the Bucket list with too many Coronas instead…oopsies…
We might get some waves this week. I just had some fun waves with the longboard. Tomorrow will be tiny and superhot. Everyone’s bracing for the big heat…43 degrees…we’ll see…Wednesday the Southerly is meant to bring some relief from the hot weather along with some waves … yay. I reckon Thursday will be the pick of the week surfwise.
Have a good one
