Ok I know it’s Tuesday so for most of you the weekend seems like a long way away. Mine only ended yesterday as I had Monday off, hence the late weekend wave wrap. Not that there was much to report anyway. Well, that’s not entirely true. After a bit of a flat/tiny wave spell, we had some swell coming in last week and there were some fun waves to be had in the Eastern suburbs. One could tell though that everyone was starved for some surf. It was crowded as hell but Saturday and Sunday, even though it was wind affected, there was some fun surf to be had. Especially Sunday it picked up again and there was a good right in the South corner that was actually walling up pretty nicely. But oh my god, how crowded was it. I think there about 15 people paddling for every wave. Pretty hectic and I had a little accident too. Absolute shocker. I was paddling, paddling, paddling – yes, good girl I am I checked for the inside so I would not drop in – pop up and this guy is getting up next to me so I try to ‘oi’ him out of the wave but he reckons he wants to go left and instead of getting of my wave he gets into my thigh. Full on, proper crash. It hurt a lot. But no blood, well only a little bit. My board was fine so I kept on surfing for a bit longer. I knew it was going to be a good bruise and hey by Monday night my thigh is more purple than white, wonder what color my new Bondi tattoo is going to turn into tomorrow. Oh well, could have been worse. At least you can still surf with a bruise even though I did not think I would after checking the surf Monday morning (well kind of …it was more lunchtime due to unexpected “Sunday night turned into Saturday night”…and let me tell you the bruise was not the only thing that was hurting)
Either way Monday, looked horrible to start with. Messy onshore but at least some size to it. I’ve surfed North Bondi early avo and surprise, surprise, even though it looked shocking, there were some good waves there too. Later in the avo I went for another surf (did I mention I love my four day working week J) at lower tide. It was still onshore and quite messy but there was hardly anyone out there. Ok you had to pick the right waves …and paddling back out through messy 3ft waves was hard work. Having said that, I had another fun session. Always the way, when you don’t have any expectations, it turns out the most fun. Bondi is just made for onshores. It keeps the crowds away, many peaks and stops it from closing out too much. Yay to onshore Bondi.
Looks like the swell is going to turn NE Thursday and Friday, before we are in for some more strong Southerlies on the weekend. At least it’s not flat…
Have a great week everyone.
