Weekend Wave Wrap: Lost

As you know I’m one of the frothing sort of surfers. I’m out most days even if conditions are not perfect. And it very rarely happens but I’ve lost my surf mojo on the weekend. I’m sure it will come back… in fact I’ll predict it to be back tomorrow morning. It’s meant to be still sizeable and only a little onshore. Unlike most of the weekend…

So what happened to the froth? I think it got blown away on Friday morning. Full of excitement I set out to surf the amazing left in North Bondi yet again. I was especially excited because I had the day off and I was looking forward to surf it aaaaall by myself after the early morning crowd had left. Well, that did not quite work. I did have it all by myself (with three other guys) that’s true. It was shocking though. Clearly, I did not do my homework properly and missed the fact that a Southerly was forecast to hit mid morning. And it decided to hit while I was walking to the beach. Within two minutes anything that resembled a wave had turned into mush. I had the shortest surf ever and that was pretty much it all weekend. Because I was away the weekend before I could not be bothered to organise a roadie. Even though I hear the Northern beaches were pumping all weekend. Not even ‘Point Break’ amped me up enough to get back into the water. Oh well, I guess I was just over the rain and the wind…how many weekends in a row has it been really yucky? Too many… Surf mojo where are you? And sun we seemed to have lost you too?

On the upside, I think you need the not so great days to enjoy the good ones… if it was sunshine and perfect waves every day, you would get used to it and you would take it for granted and half the fun would be gone.  And even the keenest gidget needs a rest from time to time especially after a week of amazeballs surf (I think I surfed five times from Monday to Thursday alone).

Oh and because I was not surfing, I finally managed to organise the long overdue next surf girl weekend aka ‘Venus Goes Gidget surf away’ for the 15-17th Feb. Get in touch via venusgoesgidget@nullgmail.com if you might be interested and I can send more details.

There should be surf next week but I think it’s dropping as we speak. So make the most of it earlier in the week.

Have a good one
