Weekend Wave Wraps 0

Scary Tama

We’ve had such a great run of sunshine in the last few weeks. It hardly felt like winter. Unfortunately, the swell subsided too and there were hardly any waves all weekend. Well, you could catch the odd ankle biter on the right tide with the right equipment….and did I mention plenty of sunshine.

Even though there are no waves, this is a special weekend wave wrap nevertheless. Believe it or not but it’s the very last weekend wave wrap written from the Venus Goes Gidget Headquarters in the heart of Bondi beach.

Next weekend I’ll be up in Port Macquarie. So hopefully, I’ll be able to report some decent sessions from up there. And theeeeeen, after that, Venus Goes Gidget is moving offices. Not very far…It’s just a bit up the hill and over the border to Tamarama. I’ll still get to keep the postcode but shock horror I will no longer be in Bondi. After eight years in the hood, long eight years of surfing Bondi almost every day, I’m leaving my local. Well, not really because I figured the new Venus Goes Gidget headquarters are right between the South corner of Bondi and Tamarama. So really, instead of one beach in front of my house, I’ve got the choice between two.

The only small problem…I’ve only ever surfed Tamarama twice maybe three times max. Tama and I always had a bit of a strange relationship.  Even though I always very much preferred the beach over Bondi to hang out because I like the rocks and the shady spots they provide which is perfect for a ranga like me. However, I was never quite a fan of surfing Tama – especially with that take off just in front of the rocks. I’ve got a hunch that’s due to the fact that I had a really bad experience with rocks when I first started surfing. The other thing is, it’s a really small take off zone. I always wondered how on earth is anyone going to catch a wave with 30 people in one tiny take-off spot? But hang on…that’s kind of normal for Bondi… At least Bondi has lefts and rights and Tama is only a left which is a bit annoying if you are a regular like me. But then Bali has mostly lefts and I still love it. Hm looks like I’m running out of excuses, I guess I need to get out of my comfort zone that is the Bondi bubble and give Tama a go. About time after almost 10 years in the Eastern suburbs….Bronte and Mackenzie are next. Watch out….gidget is coming…

Well, first we need some waves again. There were a few today in between long waits but Bondi was straight as. It looks like we are in for more waves from Wednesday at the latest. Perfect…just in time for my little short holiday up the coast.

Have a great week gidgets and friends of gidgets
