Heaps of sunshine and a fun little swell made for a wicked weekend. I was also settling into a new home on the weekend which not only meant unpacking tons of boxes but also settling into a new surfing routine. The nature of a new routine is that you have to experience a few firsts before you are establishing a new one.
So did I with surfing. I was testing new waters for my new surfing routine:
First time I took a car down to Bondi to the surf. I have to admit I always looked at the people who had to get changed in the car park with a certain degree of pity and now I’m one of them. Having said that, I figured by the time I’ve got the car packed and got changed in the carpark, I may as well walk down there. To South Bondi it’s actually only a five minute walk, so I can’t really justify the drive….Hm if it was not for that bloody hill on the way back. Oh well, I guess my legs will thank me for it and fuelled by post surf stoke it should be a breeze walking up that hill. And the environment will thank me too…
First time I’ve surfed Tamarama in a long time. With great satisfaction I’ve realised that whilst it’s a loooong five minute walk to South Bondi, it’s only a short two minute walk to jump into the surf in Tama. And the NE swell made for some fun surf there on the weekend. Winning. Very excited. And even more excited that I overcame my little fear of Tama too. I did not even mind the rocks so much anymore and quite enjoyed it. I did have a little scare though when a massive shadow appeared under my board. It turned out to be a majestic manta ray. After the first little scare, it was just beautiful to watch through crystal clear waters.
First time I need to rely on surf reports other than my own . I used to walk to the beach to check the surf. Now that there is a hill between my house and the beach, I won’t.
First time my boards have their own house. Yes, it’s true. All eight boards have their own house – it’s a gidget shed. Whoop. Whoop. Very convenient.
First time I’m writing the Weekend Wave Wrap from the new Venus Goes Gidget headquarters and I have to say it’s not an easy task. Loving the view from my desk which also happens to be a prime whale watching spot. And the lovely whales have decided to swim past just as I was writing the weekend wave wrap. Awww…did I mention …a change is as good as a holiday?
Looking forward to further settling into my new surfing routine (and home). There will be some waves this week. A new South swell is due on Wednesday. Nothing massive but three foot will do for some fun surfs down in good old Bondi.
Have a great week
x Clauds
