I hear there were waves. I am not quite sure if they were any good though. Reports from my surf spies were pretty contradictory. Some people telling me it was pretty bad. Even though the weather was summer like, the surf was still a reminder that it’s only September. Apparently, it’s still quite chilly for the early morning surfs. And my surf spies have also been telling me the banks are not so great either. Some other mates on the other hand were frothing about great sessions they had over the weekend in Bondi and surrounds. Hmm… It does not really matter anyway… in the end it’s all a matter of perspective.
I, for example, don’t even care any more if they are good or bad waves. I’ve been out of the water for 19 days now (who’s counting L) and it looks like I was a bit optimistic when I thought I’ll be straight back in the water after my stitches are out of my knee. Last time I checked you have to bend your knee when surfing. So I’ll have to sit out a bit longer and I’m starting to get a bit stir crazy. Even the novelty of guilt free sleep-ins without having the feeling you are missing out on the surf has worn off. Long story short, all I want now is to get in the water. Good or bad waves.
So last weekend, instead of surfing, I’ve resorted to watching some surfing again. The Dominelli Group Women’s Surf Classic were on in Cronulla over the weekend. It was nice to get out of the city and watch some pretty good surfing. It was a bit weird though driving to the Shire without actually surfing myself. I don’t think I’ve ever been there without a surfboard and forced to be a spectator rather than being part of the action. How about that for a change of perspective…
Looks like it’s getting gradually smaller in the week to come until it picks up again by the end of the week. In the meantime, I hope you get to enjoy the hot weather. How good is it? 30 degrees tomorrow. Wohoo.
