About you in a few words and how you got to surfing :
My family is into sailing, so I think my love for the ocean developed pretty early on from spending lots time on our boat. I’m originally from Finland, so surfing wasn’t an option while growing up – I’m sure I would’ve got into it earlier if it had been possible! The first time I got to try surfing was on a family holiday to South Africa, but only years later could I get more into it while living in Byron for a year doing a study abroad program at Griffith Uni. I got totally addicted to life by the beach and surfing (and Australia!)… And missed it so much that in 2012 a few years later I decided to move to Sydney! I’ve now lived in Bondi for a year, it’s a great place to live and I love how I can get out for a surf most days.
Local break: Bondi
What I love about surfing: I love the ocean and surfing is simply the best way to get amongst it and connect with nature… Love the feeling of paddling out and forgetting everything else, so meditative, and great exercise too. What I hate about surfing: Crowds, aggressive people… And chronically having random bruises haha!
Favourite surfspot in Oz: The Pass, Broken Head, Sharpes, Scotts Head… So many great spots but still got heaps to explore!
Favourite surfspot overseas: Canggu, Serangan and Gerupuk in Indo. Favourite surfboard: Been getting really into longboarding lately so have to say my 9.4 log by Gato Heroi – “The Dagger”
Favourite surfer: Kassia Meador, great longboarder and cool chick! Favourite surf movie: None in particular… Mainly enjoy the ones that are less about charging big waves and more about surf culture, travel and personalities!
What I do when I’m not surfing: Work in marketing, yoga, have fun with friends, check out cool cafes and bars, go to gig & festivals, travel as often as possible…
