We had the pleasure to interview  ‘Great Gidget’ Alexa about her love of surfing. She’s a real trooper and always got a massive smile on her face. When she’s not surfing, you’ll probably see her at sparrow’s fart on the grass in Bondi helping the ladies in Bondi to stay fit and healthy.

About you in a few words and how you got to surfing:
I’m a country girl at heart, I grew up in the hunter so we’d always holiday along the south and central coasts. As kids we’d always hire surf boards for the trip and so I became addicted pretty quick. Plus my brother was an avid surfer back in the day so I’d always try to keep up and compete with him.
When I moved to Vietnam, then Melbourne, then New York my passion was becoming a distant memory until I moved to Sydney 3 years ago. Bondi wasn’t the easiest place to get my bearings back, but I’m now truly and utterly obsessed.

What I love about surfing: I love that it’s something that takes time and patience. Taj Burrow said this once “The only difference between you and I is time in the water and persistence” I’m a pretty impatient person so surfing really serves as a moving mediation for me.

What I hate about surfing: Wave hoggers. But then again, I probably am one too… Any aggressive behaviour can be left on the shore in my opinion.

Favourite surfspot in Oz: So far, has to be Byron.

Favourite surfspot overseas: Hmm… either Puerto Escondido, Mexico or Indo

Favourite surfboard: 6’4 Fish ‘Rebecca’ I have no idea why I called her that!?

Favourite surfer: Ever since I saw her surf at Bondi, Steph Gilmore defo takes the lead. What an inspiration for women who surf!

Favourite surf movie: Point Break for sure.

What you do when you are not surfing: I’m a trainer for Bottoms Up! Fitness and AGOGA, so I’m usually out and about keeping Bondi fit and healthy. At the moment we’re getting ready to launch our new side business G.O Adventures by AGOGA. I’m heading up all our events and programs and we’re kicking it off in style by trekking Kokoda in August 2014, which is epic! I’m a little nervous, but super pumped!!
