Ok, admittedly, I’m running a bit late with the latest weekend wave wrap with two events colliding.
Event number one was our recent surf and yoga weekend. We got back on Sunday from our recent surf and yoga break down the coast. The gorgeous Sarah Turner from PureFitness Manly got a nice crew together to join us for the latest venture.
The weekend was filled with free surfing for the more advanced gidgets and surf lessons for beginner gidgets, some yoga moves and stretches and delicious food by VGG resident nutritionist Ali Dear. Of course, there was also lots of time for relaxation and a good old afternoon nap. Most of the time the ladies join us from a rather stressful week in busy corporate jobs or have full time jobs as mums and it’s always so nice to see the ladies relax more and more and just enjoy themselves as the weekend progresses. By Sunday, everyone had a big smile on their face and a healthy sun-kissed glow. Happy days.
It did help as well that once again, the weather gods were with us. Whilst Sydney seemed to be a bit on the grey and stormy side, we were blessed with sunshine and warmer than average temperatures down the South Coast. We are looking forward to the next one with the lovely Pure Fitness Manly crew. Here are some of the pictures from the weekend >>
The other reason why I’m late, is the first big swell of the season. Everyone’s been waiting so hard for the swell to arrive after weeks and weeks of weak summer slop. I was in two minds about the swell. On the one hand I was looking forward to catching some good waves on the other hand I was really hoping for Huey to be late this time too and to hold off a few days as I figured 6-8 foot is not ideal for our surf and yoga weekend.
Saturday, when I did the early surf check, I saw a lot of disappointed faces as the much anticipated swell had not arrived by then. But it was building slowly. By the end of day Saturday some swell lines started to form on the horizon. Perfect day for teaching. Sunday morning it was already a good 4ft down the coast but still ok in the protected corners for the coaching side of things. By 2 pm I thought it was pretty big with powerful 5-6ft sets rolling in and by the time I got back to Tamarama, it was off the charts. It was massive and only a handful of peeps out. It looked like an Indo reef break. I figured it’s safer for me to watch than joining the action, when I saw some triple overhead sets roll through.
Yesterday, the swell dropped a bit and I surfed for a couple of hours early. It was loads and loads of fun. After the surf, I was meant to write the weekend wave wrap but I hit the wall. It was time for gidget to relax…so here’s your weekend wave wrap on a Tuesday. Better late than never I say :-)
Looks like we’ll have waves all week. Nothing too big but fun waves around the 3ft mark.
Have a great week, gidgets and friends of gidgets!
x Clauds
