Weekend Wave Wrap: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…

By Venus Goes Gidget · On February 26, 2012

The same holds true for surf reports. Depending on who your source of information was the surf was either pumping or crap this weekend.

Due to other non-surf related commitments I was out of town – it felt weird leaving the house for a weekend away without my surfboard but there was no point taking my board to the Blue Mountains so I had to rely on my mates to give me surf updates from the hood.

All in all, it seems like I have not missed much. I hear Saturday was pretty small but it was such a beautiful day and well worth a swim or a mal session. Sunday, I was itching to get back from the hillside to the beach (the Austrian in me still thinks they should be called blue hills rather than mountains). I was checking/texting with my mates on surf conditions. They all surfed the bra this morning at about the same time:

Friend of not many words: Surf?
Me: Can’t out of town.
Friend of not many words: Did not miss much.

Gidget Friend: Ominous vibe in the surf this morning… divers at the bra searching for a body off the reef. Eeeek.
Me: Yuk…was the surf any good?
Gidget Friend: Na avtown

Always frothing mate: Bra sick high tide Bowls. 3ft and pumping with not too many crew because of cloudy day.
Me: Heading back now. Gonna be any good in the avo?
Always frothing mate: Yes swell is picking up from North. Bondi might even have a wave.

Thanks guys, now I know as much as before… Oh well, by the time I got back to the hood, Bra looked blown out on the cam. Bondi did not look great at low tide and 1 foot in the afternoon. I was still pretty keen to get into the water and desperation goes a long way. I was tossing up between a surf or a swim. In the end surfing won. The water was beautiful (and freezing) and with Bruce 2 I still had a few fun rides.

The week ahead is not looking good for Bondi to start with. Low tide in the morning and North East swell is not the best combo for this part of town. Tama or Maroubra should be alright though for the early morning surfs. Don’t forget to pack your springies. North East swell makes for freezing water.

By Wednesday the swell is coming from the South so Bondi might pick up a bit of a wave again by then.
