After the biggish swell mid week, the swell subsided towards the end of the week which was good for Bondi. Bondi did not handle the South swell very well to start with so finally it was surfable sans close-outs Friday and Saturday.
The only problem was because Bondi was not so good throughout the week, every man and his dog hit the waves on the weekend. I tried to outsmart everyone Saturday morning and got out super early…6.30 that is and failed miserably. Whilst there were fun waves of about 2ft+ around, it was so busy I gave up an hour later. More of the same when I went late avo. Some good waves to be had but I forgot how busy Bondi gets on the weekend. I guess you just have to time it right. A friend of mine surfed around lunchtime on Saturday and she said no one was around and she had an absolute ball for 2 hours….Oh well…
Sunday morning I did get up early again to check because the longboard comp was on. So I tried to get out before that one started. It did look rather uninspiring though. I decided to take a day off surfing and stretched out in an early morning yoga class which was nice for a change. I did not expect to surf all day really. When the rain and the wind came up I saw it picked up a bit but I was still not too keen as it was pretty yucky outside. Late afternoon a friend of mine convinced me to come out anyway for a quick paddle and surprise, surprise….surf had picked up to about 3ft by then and was heaps of fun. The paddle back to the line-up was a bitch as it was choppy windswell but Bondi just gets good on these onshore days. I ended up having the best surf all week. Really unexpected.
It could be alright tomorrow morning. Not sure about the week ahead. Looks like it’s gonna be flat by midweek and only picking up again towards the end of the week…
