Research shows that only 1 in 5 plastic bottles actually get recycled after single use, and every second approximately 1,500 plastic bottles end up either in the ocean or in waste landfills. This sad statistic is just one of many, and the truth is our beautiful oceans are heavily impacted by our disposable society where ‘reduce & reuse’ is easier said than done. Luckily there is a rising demand for environmentally conscious solutions, and companies providing sustainable products are increasingly available.
So my dear swimwear loving Gidgets – meet OceanZen, a brand that is not just about cheeky, functional and eye catching bikinis, but bikinis that are also sustainable, innovative and a creative way of supporting the cause for a clean ocean! Now this is something I’m excited to tell you more about…
OceanZen was created in 2014 when Designer Steph Gabriel discovered a newly designed, innovative fabric, made by re-creating discarded plastic bottles and fishing nets into soft, high quality lycra. Steph had always been drawn to the ocean, and this passion and a drive to protect the oceans led her to a degree and career in Environmental Marine Science. With the discovery of this innovative, sustainable fabric she then found a way to combine two of her passions; marine conservation and swimwear, into one environmentally conscious brand.
My OceanZen bikini has been a favourite this summer – the fabric is truly incredible and super soft but the bikini is also supportive (which is obviously key for us Gidgets!), not to mention OceanZen being a guilt-free choice which makes me love it even more.
